Week 11-13 in Cooktown

While the kids were in school, we hiked up Mt Cook. It's a two and a half hour up and one hour down hike. It was a pretty rugged climb but it was a beautiful trial. Along the way, we climbed around huge boulders and vines were hung from everywhere.

At the top, we sat on a boulder on the east side of the mountain and we were treated with magnificent views. In the photo below you could see Walker Bay and Annan River. The patches of the clearing between the bay and the road is the Cooktown Golf Club. You could golf there for less than $25!

The following weekend, we went to the Cooktown Annual Day Race. We got up very close to see the horses and watched the races by the track.

Since Finch Bay is just around the corner, we really enjoyed going there and the kids loved to play on the white sandy beach, just not in the water...

Although there were crocodiles in the creeks and beaches near the coast, they usually wouldn't go up the river where the water is too chilly for them. There are several water falls with water holes to swim in and many spots along the creeks kids can play in.

We have one particular wallaby who would come in to our backyard and help itself with the grass and bushes. We try to lure it to come a little closer with sweet potato. We try not to feed the wild life and so far, it hasn't brought any friends, yet. So I think we have a good understanding.

The kids caught the fishing bug and have been to the Wharf a few times to try their luck. Ty actually caught one after a big one got away.

Maverick continues to find unusual insects.

It was Mason's 8th birthday and he invited his two best buddies, Jack and Toby, from his class. He had a Lego Tournament, ice cream sundaes, and water balloons.

Mason have been wanted a Digery Doo and it was one of his presents.
